Fringes May 2026: a new slick leaf unfurling like a fist to an open palm

We met on what should have been a lovely May Saturday except of course it is the week white supremacy regained even more power with the destruction of the Voting Rights Act. And the U.S. is ramping up its death machinery within the country and across the globe. So in the midst of praising the glorious beauty of spring we also held up the destruction and fear, a “a return to the strange idea of continuous living despite the mess of us, the hurt, the empty” in the words of Ada Limón.

Our music included Alexandra Ahley Blakely’s “You Do Not Carry This All Alone”

The final readings in our Psalms section was Susan Windle’s “Ode to Yes” and Wendell Berry’s “Look Out,” reminding us of the power of saying “Yes” alongside all the “Hell No’s” the world requires of us at this moment.
